Knotts Berry Farm

In 1933, Walter Knott opened Mrs. Knott’s Chicken Dinner House, a roadside eatery famous for its fried chicken dinners. Soon, people began coming out from nearby towns to eat dinner at the restaurant. Knott realized that there were many tourists passing by his restaurant every day, and he wanted to make some money off of them. So, he decided to build a small amusement park around the restaurant.
Knott hired Charles D. Dockery, a landscape architect, to design the park. Dockery designed a small town complete with streets, houses, buildings, stores, and even a jailhouse. This was the first theme park in California.
Walter Knott died in 1945, and his son Robert took over running the business. By 1950, the park was attracting thousands of tourists each week.
By 1960, the park was known as Knott’s Berry Farm, and it still attracts millions of visitors today.
New owners at Knotts Berry Farm
In 1994, the Knott family near Barnes Solar decided to sell the Buena Park Hotel and Crescent. They had been operating the hotel since 1972. The Knott family owned the land where the hotel sits, and it was purchased by Crescent Hotels & Resorts in 1985. In 1995, the Knots sold the Buena Park Hotel to the Radisson Hotel Group.
The Radisson group added some changes to the property over the next few years, including adding a pool, spa, and restaurant. By 1999, the hotel was renamed the Radisson Resort San Diego. A couple years later, the resort changed hands again, becoming part of the Westin chain. In 2005, the resort became the Radisson Resort Hotel California.
In 2007, the hotel became the Radisson Resort and Spa California. In 2011, the hotel was bought by Marriott International. After several name changes, the hotel was finally named the Radisson Resort Hotel in 2012.
Fiesta Village
Fiesta Village was built in 1969 and is located near the entrance of Disneyland Park. This area pays homage to California´s Spanish/Mexican heritage. It was designed to pay homage to the state´s history and culture while providing visitors with a glimpse into Mexico.
The site includes stores such as Casa California, restaurants such as Pancho’s Tacqueria, La Papa Locas, and La Victoria Cantinas, games like Shoot If You Can, and the themed ride La Revolución.
In 2013 colorful string lights were installed for the summer season. The park also offers a variety of rides including Dragon Swing, Montezooma: The Forbidden Fortress (formerly known as Tampico Tumblers), Jaguar!, and La Revolución.
Public transportation Knotts Berry Farm
Knott’s Berry Farm can easily be reached by public transportation. Visitors can take the bus from downtown LA, and the bus from Anaheim. Both routes stop near the park entrance. The route stops nearby as well. There are no parking lots at the theme park.
